LA-06, MS-01: More DCCC Expenditures

The DCCC’s been keeping busy.

Saturday night:

  • LA-06: $8000 in field organizing for Don Cazayoux; $8800 in media production.
  • MS-01: $8000 for a media buy against Greg Davis and for Travis Childers; $3000 in media production.
  • And today:

  • LA-06: $4000 in field organizing for Don Cazayoux; $29,000 in direct mail against Woody Jenkins; and $1300 for media production.
  • MS-01: $17,000 for direct mail against Greg Davis.
  • Total spent to date by the DCCC in these races: $747,110 in LA-06 and $401,364 in MS-01 (with roughly $250K of that coming after the April 22nd special primary).

Will Bardwell has the audio clip on YouTube of a DCCC radio ad hitting Greg Davis for his support of Bush’s disastrous policies in Iraq and at home.  Obviously this ad is carefully targeted, but it’s reassuring to know that the big boys are delivering some well-placed punches here.

On our end, while the Swing State Project is striving to raise $2300 for Travis Childers by May 5th, we’re only $15 short of our daily goal of $200 (or $1500 total).  Will a hero emerge?  If you haven’t done so already, please consider making a donation today — anything you can manage will help a great deal.

    LA-06, MS-01: NRCC Fires Back

The NRCC has posted their independent expenditures for the day:

    • MS-01: $260,000 on media buys against Democrat Travis Childers, and $15,000 on producing the ads.
    • LA-06: $53,000 on direct mail against Democrat Don Cazayoux, and $8800 on another poll in this district.

The new expenditures in MS-01 add up to $570,518 spent by the NRCC, with $276,588 of that spent during the runoff period.  The NRCC’s total bill in LA-06 is $312,206 — but they’ve also been aided by huge infusions of cash by Freedom’s Watch and the Club For Growth.

Here at SSP, we’re not sitting idly by while the NRCC smears and distorts the truth in an attempt to cling to life in deep red districts like these.  You’ve helped us raise over $1000 for Travis Childers in barely over a day.  If you haven’t done so already, please help give Childers the resources he needs to win.

Update: The DCCC just posted a few expenditures of their own, including $2900 on field organizing, $16K on direct mail, and $9K on ad production in LA-06.  They also spent $13K on media production in MS-01.

    LA-06: Cazayoux Fighting Back

Well, we’ve seen some race-baiting and outright lies by Republican Party operatives in ads over the last two days.  I guess they thought that since Don is a Democrat, he would shrivel up into the fetal position, and whine.  Think again.  It’s not 2004, but 2008.  Democrats today stand up and fight what we all know is right:

Help keep this ad on the air right up until Election Day (May 3rd) by donating here.

    LA-06: The Kitchen Sink

The DCCC’s latest expenditures in Louisiana:

  • $257,000 on producing an airing an ad against Woody Jenkins.

  • $2,280 on field organizing for Don Cazayoux.

  • $16,600 on direct mail against Woody Jenkins.

    Total spent to date: $649,046

  • The GOP’s latest expenditures in Louisiana:

  • $130,000 from the NRCC on ads against Don Cazayoux

  • $94,000 by anti-union businessman Leonard Grisby on producing and airing an ad against Cazayoux

  • $94,000 from the Club For Growth PAC on an ad against Cazayoux

    Total spent to date: NRCC: $250,104 | Freedom’s Watch: $502,000 | Grisby: $159,000 | Club For Growth: $94,000

  • The NRCC and its allies have dumped a whole lotta scrilla in this race against Don Cazayoux, pushing the narrative that he’s a taxaholic.  Suspiciously, several of these ads are awfully similar in style and language, despite being produced by different groups.  For instance, just the other day, Freedom’s Watch and the NRCC both put up ads slamming Cazayoux for supporting Barack Obama’s health care plan.

The DCCC is hitting back with a second legal complaint against the apparent coordination.  In the diaries, Ryan has more.

    Special election: 5/3.

LA-06: DCCC Files 2nd Complaint Against the NRCC and Freedoms Watch

Hat Tip to The Stakeholder AND cross-posted at Daily Kingfish.

The DCCC has filed a second complaint against the NRCC and Freedoms Watch for:

    • Running a political attack ad that directly and illegally advocates the defeat of a Democratic candidate AND
    • failing to disclose the names of the donors funding that ad

They’ve even made a video outlining their case:

LA-06: Unemployed Ex-Congresswoman Donates to Unemployable Wannabe Congresswoman

Now this is interesting.  Ashley Casey, a “new media consultant” from Baton Rouge and former aide to Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer (R), is running as an independent in the special election to replace Rep. Richard Baker.  She hasn’t raised a lot of money, but she did receive an eyebrow-raising check in the mail today:

    Sue Kelly

    Katonah, New York 10536

    Employer: Self

    Occupation: Former Congresswoman

    Date Contributed = 04/22/2008

    Amount Contributed = 1000.00

Yup, that’s right — Sue Kelly, the former NY GOP Congresswoman whose career was put to its merciful end by Democrat John Hall in 2006, cut a thousand dollar check to an indie candidate when her party needs all the help they can get to hold on here.  I wonder what she’s got against Woody Jenkins?

Also of note: it’s interesting that Kelly lists “Former Congresswoman” as her occupation.  Around these parts, we call that being unemployed.

LA-06: Republican Student Leader Loses Post over Support of Cazayoux

It seems that everyone is supporting Don Cazayoux in the contest for Louisiana's sixth congressional district– even the incoming president of the College Republicans at Louisiana State University.  Smoot Carter, a junior at LSU, announced his support for Cazayoux at a news conference last Thursday, prompting Louisiana Federation of College Republicans Chairman Rudy Perciful Jr. to ask Carter to resign.  Republican candidate Woody Jenkins' past includes support for the notorious bigot David Duke, a controversy that appears to have influenced Carter's decision.

“I decided to support Don Cazayoux, and felt that the 1,600 students I represent in the College Republicans could not stand for anti-Semitism,” Carter said.

Sounds like more good news for our side!

  • LA-06, MS-01: Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems

The NRCC’s expenditures for the day:

    • LA-06: $10,000 on a poll.
    • MS-01: $8,800 on a poll, and $32,666 on direct mail against Democrat Travis Childers.
    • The NRCC’s expenditures to date:

      MS-01: $274,140 | LA-06: $120,194

The DCCC’s bill for the day:

    • The DCCC’s expenditures to date:

      MS-01: $126,576 | LA-06: $322,807

LA-06, MS-01: DCCC Drops Da Bomb

Aw yeah.  The DCCC just posted two more independent expenditures tonight.

First up, LA-06:  $2K on field organizing, $22K on direct mail, and $104K on a media buy opposing GOP loser Woody Jenkins.  This brings the DCCC’s total bill in the district to $279,547.  In total, the NRCC has spent $110,194 on defending this seat (not counting the money spent by Freedom’s Watch here).

Next, the DCCC made a big splash in the MS-01 special election, spending $126,576 on producing and airing an ad attacking GOP candidate Greg Davis.  Earlier today, the NRCC posted a $62,000 expenditure against Democrat Travis Childers in this R+10 district.  The GOP wouldn’t be wasting precious cash here if they didn’t think there was a chance that Davis could lose this seat.

    MS-01 special election: 4/22; runoff: 5/13.

    LA-06 special election: 5/3.
